Stanage Edge from Hathersage
A nice trip out to Hathersage on a sunny, bright day in October, to do a walk from our small "Dark Peak" book that we'd first done back in August 2013.
Fortified by a coffee at the pleasant café in the "Outside" shop, we walked up past the cricket ground and the Brookfield Manor estate, admiring the changing autumn colours.

After crossing a minor road, we climbed up the drive that leads to North Lees Hall, apparently the inspiration for Jane Eyre. Past the hall, an ancient green track gives a view of Stanage Edge, our objective.

The walk goes through the Stanage Plantation and then to the edge itself, which we know well. We found a couple of boulders that sheltered us from the wind and had our lunch.

We took the pleasant walk to the trig point at the south end of Stanage.

We then wended our way back to Hathersage on a slightly different route to that which we'd done before, passing Carhead Rocks on a path marked on the OS map, but not as a right-of-way. We joined the "usual" route through Moorseats and past its helicopter pad; since we'd been there last, a vineyard had been planted!

There was a bit of a drama when we reached Hathersage and Jacita realised that she'd lost her treasured Patagonia down jacket from the top of her rucksack; David retraced our steps and some kind person had picked it up and hung it from a gatepost. We were really happy!

It was a really nice walk with superb weather.
6.3 miles with 370m ascent.
